Water is not the answer to proper hydration.

Drinking eight glasses of water a day is one myth that will not die!

It’s not true and there is no science behind it.

The source of this myth was a 1945 Food and Nutrition board recommendation that said people need about 2.5 liters of water a day. But they ignored the following sentence, “Most of this quantity is contained in prepared foods.”

Since that recommendation in 1945 many studies have been done debunking the idea, however, none have made any difference.

I recommend water as a beverage, however, when it comes to hydration, water alone is not enough.

Hydration is about water plus electrolytes.

You lose both water and sodium when you sweat. Both need to be replaced to prevent muscle cramps, headaches, and energy dips. But most people only replace the water.

Sodium is an electrolyte—a mineral that carries electrical charges in your body. Sodium also regulates fluid balance, which is at the core of hydration.

After sodium and water, potassium and magnesium would be next in line for hydration. Deficiencies in either electrolyte can cause headaches, low energy, and muscle cramps.

It’s also worth noting that drinking too much water is a bad idea. It dilutes blood electrolyte levels, especially sodium, which can lead to headaches, low energy, cramps, confusion, or worse.

I’ve always found it difficult to find a drink that provides the right hydration. Gatorade, and other sports drinks are often loaded with sugar and a lot of artificial colors and flavors.

However, recently, I’ve started using LMNT. A tasty electrolyte drink mix with the ideal ratio of electrolytes, 1000 mg sodium, 200 mg potassium, and 60 mg magnesium. It also contains ZERO sugar, artificial ingredients, or preservatives.

Since I started taking LMNT I’ve noticed my energy levels improve and the intensity in my training is much better too.

Everyone can benefit from a good electrolyte drink and especially those who train regularly or participate in any sports.

I have no connection or affiliate with LMNT. This is a completely non biased recommendation.
