Get up and walk after dinner.

Most evenings my after-dinner routine was to put my feet up and watch Netflix, catch up on the news or scroll through social media. However, now that we’re into summer and evenings are brighter, I’ve changed things up and started getting out for a 20-minute walk instead.

And the benefits are great!

Studies indicate as little as 15 minutes of walking after a meal can lead to significant health benefits relating to digestion, metabolism, weight loss, blood sugar, mood, and sleep.

Improve Digestion:
Walking after your meals helps your body produce enzymes that support digestion and aids in the passage of food.

After every meal, your blood sugar levels may be elevated. Especially if your meal is high in carbohydrates. Research shows that going for a walk after a meal can help keep blood sugar levels in check.

If you feel sleepy after a meal, then going for a brisk walk can boost your energy levels and help in burning extra calories. Walking after your evening meal can reduce late night cravings and assisting your sleep it helps in boosting your metabolism.

Mood:
Walking is a great stress buster. Research shows that walking releases endorphins in your body. This hormone acts as a natural painkiller. It helps in uplift your mood and beating any mental health issues.

Instead of crashing on the couch after a meal, lace up those walking shoes and enjoy all of the benefits of walking after eating.
