Are you even playing the right game?!

Most people fall into playing the A to B game when it comes to their health and fitness goals. They think, "I'm 200 pounds now (Position A), and I need to get to 180 pounds (Position B). Once I do this, I've won, and the game is over." This mindset is quite common, but it's also flawed.

What many fail to realize is that they’re actually playing the wrong game. The game of health and fitness isn't about reaching a final destination; it's about embracing an ongoing journey. This is the infinite game we are all playing, whether we recognize it or not.

The infinite game means continually making choices that support your well-being for as long as you are living and breathing. It's not just about hitting a specific weight goal; it's about sustaining a lifestyle that promotes overall health.

Imagine your body is like a house. Once a house is built, the work isn't over. It requires ongoing maintenance to remain in good condition. You need to clean, repair, and sometimes remodel to keep it functional and comfortable. Your physique is the same.

Reaching your target weight is a significant milestone, but it's not the end. To maintain that weight and overall health, you need to continue practicing healthy habits. This includes eating nutrient-dense foods and exercising regularly. Just as neglecting house maintenance can lead to deterioration, neglecting your health can lead to a decline in well-being.

Shifting from an A to B mindset to an infinite game mindset involves a few key changes in perspective:

  1. Long-Term Thinking: Understand that health is a lifelong journey. Short-term goals can be motivating, but they should be seen as steps in an ongoing process rather than final destinations.

  2. Consistency Over Perfection: Focus on making consistent, healthy choices rather than striving for perfection. It's the regular, small actions that add up over time.

  3. Adaptability: Life changes, and so should your approach to health. Be willing to adjust your routines and goals as your circumstances evolve. What works for you now might need tweaking in the future.

  4. Holistic Health: Remember that good health is not just about weight. Consider other aspects such as strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular fitness. Aim for a balanced approach that nurtures all these areas.

  5. Embrace the Grind: Learn to enjoy the challenges and the process itself. The effort you put into exercising, eating well, and maintaining your health should be seen as part of the journey. Embrace the grind, as it builds resilience and discipline. Celebrate small victories along the way and find joy in the progress you make, no matter how incremental it might seem.
