Boost your workouts and your brain with this supplement

“What’s the No.1 supplement you’d recommend?”

I was asked this question on a webinar recently. And while there is no shortage of good supplements to recommend like, protein powders, omega oils, etc… When on the spot, I went for Creatine.

Why?

It’s one of the most studied supplements on the market,
It’s very safe,
Reasonably priced,
And, in addition to improving your overall sports performance, creatine offers other health benefits making it a supplement that can benefit everyone.

Creatine is a combination of three different amino acids: glycine, arginine, and methionine. That’s it, nothing more than a combination of amino acids.

We all have creatine stored in our body, 90% in our skeletal muscle and 10% in our brain. 50% of our stored creatine is produced in our body (provided we have a healthy diet) and 50% comes from food, animal-based proteins like meat, eggs and fish.
Creatine's main role is to improve energy production in our cells. The most basic form of energy in cells is a molecule called adenosine triphosphate (ATP). ATP depletes quickly when you exercise.

Creatine helps us replenish ATP quickly, giving muscle cells the ability to produce more energy.

The more creatine we have, the more energy we can produce in our muscle cells during exercise. This leads to improved performance, increase strength and muscle mass gain.

The benefits of creatine are not limited to exercise. With 10% of creatine stored in our brain, recent studies show positive effects on brain function and neurological health. Our brain also relies on ATP when it completes complex tasks, and these studies also showed creatine helps older individuals maintain or improve their memory.

Creatine monohydrate is the best form of creatine to take and you only need a teaspoon amount in water twice a day. Ideally, take one 30 minutes before your workout.

Creatine is an excellent supplement that has multiple benefits, but at the end of the day, taking the supplement alone is not enough to achieve your goal. It must be paired with exercise and the proper diet. The purpose of supplements is to help you, but they don’t have the power to make you athletically better and healthier overnight.
